Stay Social, Stay Sober-ish: The Best No & Low ABV Drinks for Your Summer

Fresh lemon and lime slices with mint leaves on ice, perfect for summer no and low ABV drinks.

As summer progresses and the heat invites us to relax and socialize, many people are looking for ways to maintain balance—especially when it comes to drinking. Whether you’re experimenting with moderation, or simply opting out for a refreshing change, no and low ABV (alcohol by volume) beverages are a fantastic option for those who want to stay engaged and hydrated without the effects of alcohol.

As the Clinical Director at Moderation Management and a therapist who practices moderation in my own life, I understand how important it is to enjoy social occasions while being mindful of our physical and mental health. The beauty of no and low ABV drinks is that they let us enjoy the experience of social drinking without the usual aftereffects that alcohol often brings–—whether it’s a hangover, anxiety, or feelings of being out of control.

Here’s why these drinks are a great choice this summer

  1. Take Control of Your Choices: Choosing no or low ABV drinks puts you in the driver’s seat. It’s not about giving up fun or socializing—it’s about finding a new way to enjoy the moment while feeling good about your choices. You can still be a part of the fun without overdoing it!
  2. Stay Hydrated & Refreshed: Many no and low ABV drinks are packed with fresh, flavorful ingredients that help keep you hydrated. They taste great and leave you feeling energized—perfect for a day of fun without the effects of alcohol.
  3. Enjoy the Social Vibe: Just because you are cutting back on alcohol doesn’t mean you have to miss out on the good times. These drinks let you be part of the action, whether it’s a barbecue or happy hour, without the need to drink heavily. You get to stay connected with others while taking care of yourself.
  4. Explore New Tastes & Habits: Trying no or low ABV drinks is a fun way to discover new flavors and get creative with your drinks. It’s a great chance to break away from the casual routine and experiment with something different, all while feeling more in control of your relationship with alcohol!

Whether you’re simply exploring moderation or looking to have a dry-ish day, these drinks can be a refreshing, flavorful option. Below are three of my personal favorites—two for completely alcohol-free options and one for a light, low-ABV spritz that brings just enough of a buzz without going overboard.
